Swedish Apple Pie

There are very few people who don’t love apple pie. Unfortunately, standard pie can be a tedious endeavor. If you insist on making your own pie crust, you can easily spend more than an hour on this one step and still not have it come out correctly. Even buying pre-made crusts can be a gamble. Some are good while others are just downright appalling, and they all cost too much money. Therefore, if you want apple pie without the hassle, the best possible solution is to make this delicious Swedish apple pie that essentially makes its own crust and takes only a fraction of the time and effort. In addition, Swedish apple pie is perfect for people who have limited experience around the kitchen.

What You’ll Need:

– Measuring cups and spoons
– Two medium mixing bowls
– A standard nine-inch pie dish

Ingredients:

– 2 1/2 pounds of Granny Smith or other cooking apples
– 1 cup plus 1 tablespoon of brown sugar
– 1 cup of all-purpose flour or gluten-free substitute
– 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
– 3/4 cup of melted butter, margarine or virgin coconut oil
– 1 large egg
– 1/2 cup of chopped walnuts or pecans

1. Preheat your oven to 350°F. Grease your pie dish generously and set it aside.

2. After washing your apples, core and peel them, slice them to a thickness of roughly 1/4 to 1/2 of an inch and toss them with one tablespoon of the brown sugar. Place them into one of your bowls and set them aside for now. In order to keep them from turning brown due to oxidation, you can sprinkle them with a little lemon or lime juice.

3. In the second mixing bowl, mix together the flour, remaining sugar, chopped nuts and cinnamon. Next, add the butter and egg. If you want your Swedish apple pie to have a lighter and more decadent texture, you can cream the sugar, butter and egg together separately with a whisk or electric mixer and then add them to the dry ingredients. Once all the ingredients are blended, spread the apples evenly into the pie dish and pour the mixture over them. If desired, decorate the top of the Swedish apple pie with pecan or walnut halves or sprinkle it generously with a mixture of cinnamon and brown sugar.

4. Once the pie is prepared to your satisfaction, bake it in the oven for 40 to 45 minutes or until the top is golden brown. After your Swedish apple pie is done, let it cool for about 30 minutes. This pie goes great with whipped cream, vanilla ice cream or a drizzling of real maple syrup.

It’s recommended that you make more than one of these simple and scrumptious pies, especially if you’re making them for a group function. People will love them so much that they won’t last long and it’s disappointing when there are no leftovers.
